Ricardian Pubs

Home

This is a list of good pubs you may find handy when visiting Ricardian sites. All, except one, serve Real Ale .  A good meal and a good pint makes my day; you could meet me in any one of these.

BOSWORTH

Market Bosworth - There's  Ye Old Red Lion , or the Black Horse .

FOTHERINGHAY AREA

Falcon , Fotheringhay, Northamptonshire.

Black Horse , Nassington. (For Fotheringhay and Prebendal Manor House.)

Olive Branch , Clipsham. North of Stamford, off A1. Handy for Empingham (Lose Cote Field) and not far from Fotheringhay.

GLOUCESTERSHIRE AND OXON.

Tewkesbury - Berkeley Arms . Near the cross.

Corner Cupboard ,  Winchcombe (for Sudeley Castle , marital home of Lady Eleanor Butler.)

Minster Lovell - The Mill and Old Swan .

LUDLOW AND MARCHES

Riverside Inn , Aymestrey. (For Ludlow and Mortimer's Cross.) A personal favourite.

Church Inn , The Buttercross, Ludlow; handy for the castle.

YORKSHIRE

Sawley Arms , Sawley, Yorkshire. (For Middleham and Fountains Abbey . No Real Ale here, but the food makes up for it, and the red wine is lovely.

At Middleham one is spoilt for choice between the Black Swan  and the White Swan . take your pick!

Saxton (for Towton Battlefield). The Greyhound . 13th century whitewashed building.

Sheriff Hutton - Castle Inn . This is on the village green.

Tempest Arms  Elslack, near Skipton. Chrissie and I are virtually regulars here; if you visit it, you'll know why.

York - The Maltings . The interior of this place has to be seen to be believed.

If none of these suit you, consult the Good Pub Guide .
