I occasionally get asked for advice about the Middle Ages. While I am glad to help if I can, I can't get thirty-odd years of study into an e-mail. If you want to write historical fiction you will have to do some research of your own, and it helps if you enjoy this aspect. Below are some internet sites that may help you along the way.

Professor Martha Carlin's pages - You already owe me a tenner just for tipping you off to this wonderful source of information. Probably more data than you will ever be able to digest.

Norfolk Churches - Not all medieval churches are in Norfolk, but most Norfolk churches are medieval. If the subject interests you, there's enough here to keep you busy for months.

Monumental Brass Society - Lots of information about medieval brass memorials and the people associated with them.

Patent Rolls - Online version, courtesy of the University of Iowa. Government grants and much else from 1216-1452.

Newport Ship - A late medieval ship - interesting site.

Gough Map - Online medieval map.

Geneology - Useful site for medieval geneology.

Greydragon Library - Another vast array of information, including detailed references to costume.

Medieval Cookery - Gillian Polack pointed me in the direction of this great site on the subject of medieval food.

Medieval Calendar - No more wondering what day the 3rd June 1465 fell on!

There are a lot more useful links on the excellent Elizabeth Chadwick site. So if you can't find what you want above, I suggest trying there as your next option.
